About The Unit

This unit comprises a 48-bed inpatient acute care area focusing on post-operative oncology surgeries, including gastric, colon, liver, breast, pancreas, kidney, bladder, prostate, and gynecological cancers, along with limited post-operative gynecological surgeries related to incontinence.

Position Summary

We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Oncology who will serve as the clinical leader for the Surgical Oncology/Gynecology/Urology unit at Emory University Hospital. This registered nurse will provide leadership to integrate innovative knowledge within this specialty and utilize specialized skills across three spheres of influence: patient/family, nursing staff, and the healthcare organization. Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating with Nursing Directors to enhance clinical practice and education within the unit and across the health system.
  • Designing, implementing, and evaluating safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies.
  • Contributing to the advancement of nursing practice at local, state, national, and international levels, and applying the Professional Practice/Care Transformation Model throughout the health system.
  • Delivering direct care for complex patients with multi-system care needs.
  • Recognizing the diverse needs of patients, staff, and other professionals, and considering cultural influences when collaborating with patients and families.
  • Providing expert nursing consultation to nurses, physicians, patients, families, and others to enhance quality care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board
  • A Master's degree in nursing
  • Compliance with GA Board of Nursing requirements for CNS
  • A minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least two years of recent experience in the relevant specialty.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications are required
