Position Summary

Charge Nurse - Oncology Unit

Outpatient Oncology Clinic

Shift: Full Time 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

Location: Not specified

The Charge Nurse at our Oncology Unit is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the clinical unit, ensuring high-quality patient care. This role requires a clinician with extensive experience in patient care and a deep understanding of oncology nursing practices. The Charge Nurse will:

- Plan, coordinate, and direct the operations of the unit during their shift.
- Supervise nursing staff and facilitate effective communication with physicians and administrative personnel to ensure optimal patient and family-centered care.
- Act as a change agent, leading initiatives to enhance organizational systems that align with the department's mission and values.
- Exhibit strong problem-solving skills, conflict resolution abilities, and collaboration with team members.
- Model expert communication skills to colleagues.
- Anticipate the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes based on clinical experience and intuition.
- Be recognized as an expert clinician and leader in their specialty area.
- Complete necessary reports related to employee performance, risk management, and unit operations in a timely manner.
- Identify areas for improvement and assess the effectiveness of operational processes.
- Ensure the availability of resources required for optimal patient outcomes within the unit.
- Demonstrate effective time management skills and ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Stay informed about innovative clinical practices through benchmarking and evidence-based research.

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- A minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least two years in oncology nursing.
- A valid, active, unencumbered Nursing license or a temporary permit approved by the relevant licensing board.
- Certification in oncology nursing is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) may be necessary in specific departments.
- Internal promotions or external hires must complete designated training and criteria within nine months of their start date.
