Apex Systems is seeking a Failure Analysis Engineer to enhance our Robotics division. This role is pivotal in driving quality and reliability in our engineering processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis (RCA) and detailed failure assessments utilizing advanced analytical tools. You will be responsible for recommending corrective measures and presenting findings to both the multi-functional team and senior management.
  • Collaborate with Hardware Reliability, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Design teams to pinpoint root causes and facilitate resolutions for failures encountered during product development, production, and field operations.
  • Maintain a comprehensive RCA database, prepare failure analysis reports, and deliver presentations that clarify the root causes of failures while proposing potential solutions.
  • Exhibit proficiency in operating standard failure analysis tools and laboratory equipment. Assess and integrate new technologies and methodologies into the failure analysis workflow.
  • Work alongside test engineering and design teams for planning and executing Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Validate and verify failure analysis conducted by suppliers and vendors.
  • Develop and refine failure analysis Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and troubleshooting guidelines.
  • Engage in process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Assist in managing and mentoring Failure Analysis Engineers and Technicians in their daily tasks and projects.
  • Ensure laboratory organization and maintain detailed documentation to support effective failure analysis reporting.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering (Metallurgical) or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Failure Analysis.
  • Hands-on experience in materials sample preparation and familiarity with various materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, FTIR, CT/X-Ray, XRF analyzer, profilometers).
  • Practical experience in characterizing materials such as metals, polymers, and composites.
  • Ability to create comprehensive technical reports that present data clearly for cross-functional teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information succinctly.
  • Aptitude for thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capability to work in a laboratory setting analyzing failures.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's or PhD in Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering.
  • 5 years of proven experience in a failure analysis capacity.
  • Prior experience utilizing failure analysis laboratory equipment, including optical digital microscopes, probes, and X-ray systems.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy, including heat treatment, grain size, micro/macrostructure, case depth, and hardness testing.
  • Understanding of sensor failures in robotic automation at both material and system levels.
  • Experience with a diverse range of materials, including various metals and polymers.
