About the Job

The State of Colorado is seeking a highly skilled Transportation Planning Specialist II to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation in Colorado.

Job Summary

We are looking for a talented individual with a strong background in transportation planning to assist in the development of the Statewide and Regional Transportation Plans. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders, including CDOT Region(s) and Transportation Planning Regions and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (TPRs/MPOs), to identify regional project priorities and provide transportation data for improved decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of the Statewide and Regional Transportation Plans
  • Work as a liaison to assigned CDOT Region(s) and TPRs/MPOs
  • Assist with research on planning topics as assigned
  • Write briefs and reports
  • Assist with conducting data analysis and preparing spreadsheets
  • Perform strategic communications
  • Review and produce planning products
Requirements
  • Five (5) years of experience involving regional, urban and/or transportation planning
  • Education from an accredited college or university with coursework in planning (regional, transportation or urban), business administration, finance, political science, public administration or another field closely related to the main duties of this position

  • Knowledge of transportation planning processes
  • Experience with research, writing reports, and data analysis
  • Knowledge and experience with databases

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and be adaptable to changing assignments
  • Effective interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Strong time and project management skills, including prioritization and multi-tasking ability
  • Excellent reasoning, analytical, and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent presentation, and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Strong attention to technical detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work effectively in both independent and team situations
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, Google Applications, Gmail, SAP, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and the ability to quickly learn other software systems
