Job Description

City Year Detroit is seeking a seasoned professional to serve as the Learning and Development Director. This role is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive learning experience for AmeriCorps members that prepares them to serve as idealistic leaders and practitioners focused on strengthening schools and supporting students to improve performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build strategic relationships with district and local partners to positively impact the AmeriCorps member learning experience.
  • Work closely with City Year Detroit's Impact department to develop and implement a learning strategy that is replicable, predictable, and responsive to the needs of AmeriCorps members.
  • Design and oversee an observation and coaching strategy that empowers AmeriCorps members to build strong relationships with students and support their learning.
  • Collaborate with the Impact Manager and coaching team to develop and implement a system for providing feedback and coaching to AmeriCorps members.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with local and district partners to support the learning and development of AmeriCorps members.
Requirements
  • Experience building and growing complex professional relationships with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders and community members.
  • A passion and interest in designing learning experiences using adult learning principles, group processing protocols, and interactive learning technology.
  • Ability to create a year-long learning experience for diverse and dynamic young people that supports district and local standards and initiatives.
  • Ability to make data-informed decisions to advance team and student achievements.
  • Experience building sustainable partnerships and positive working relationships with others.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguous and changing environments while leading a team to meet results.
  • Interest and understanding of City Year's work within the national service movement and education sphere.
  • Teaching experience is strongly preferred.
