Position Overview: The Senior Financial Strategist is responsible for overseeing all financial operations within the organization. This pivotal role involves the development and management of the annual budget while providing strategic financial guidance to leadership, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives. Collaboration is key, as this position interacts with various departments and external partners, including auditors and vendors, to foster strong financial relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily financial activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management.
  • Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end financial closing processes.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial statements and reports for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Oversee cash flow management, investments, and financial performance relative to the annual budget.
  • Guarantee compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and relevant regulations.
  • Administer payroll and benefits accounts effectively.
  • Assist in annual audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.
  • Maintain strong internal controls to protect financial assets and ensure data accuracy.
  • Monitor grant and fiscal sponsorship revenues and expenses for accuracy.
  • Support communication and fund distribution for fiscal sponsorship programs.
  • Review and assist in the creation of contracts related to grants and vendors.
  • Facilitate the implementation of new financial software solutions.
  • Collaborate with team members to enhance financial management practices.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Stay informed on changes in accounting regulations and best practices.
  • Lead monthly finance meetings with management.
  • Support the strategic planning process regarding budget management.
  • Facilitate the annual budgeting process.
  • Promote organizational values centered on justice and equity.
  • Perform additional administrative duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience managing financial statements for organizations with substantial operating budgets.
  • Proficiency in cloud-based accounting systems and software.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Familiarity with Fiscal Sponsorship Programs.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to rapid changes.
  • Strong relationship-building skills across various teams and external communities.
  • Capability to develop and implement major financial initiatives.
  • Current residency in the Bay Area is required.

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
