Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Chief Engineer to join our team at Facilities Plus. The successful candidate will oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems, equipment, and controls. This includes ensuring compliance with maintenance standards outlined in agreements between Facilities Plus and the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE).

This role is integral to maintaining optimal performance and reliability of mechanical, electrical, and energy management systems. You will demonstrate technical expertise in multiple craft areas, including electrical, HVAC, and plumbing, and be multi-skilled in other areas to direct and assist in successful repairs, maintenance, restoration, and replacement of various building operational components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of boilers, pressure vessels, plumbing, and piping systems, including water, gas, steam, sanitation, etc.
  • Maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including cold storage spaces and associated equipment.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of electrical appliances, motors, generators, circuits, and emergency power systems.

You will also be responsible for supervising the operation of energy management systems, fire protection systems, and managing daily practices, systems control, and Engineering Department operations. To succeed in this role, you must have a current District of Columbia 3rd Class Steam License and CFC Universal Certification.

Requirements

A minimum of 7 years of experience as a Building Engineer is required, with demonstrated proficiency in managing all relevant systems and equipment. Previous supervisory or management experience is preferred.

You should possess strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, solve problems, and coordinate complex projects to ensure smooth operations. Excellent communication skills are essential, with the ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively in both written and oral forms.
