We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Professor of Entomology to join our team at South Dakota State University. The successful candidate will lead transformative research that tackles insect pest issues in key crops like small grains, pulse crops, and sunflowers. The research effort will focus on developing and implementing novel insect pest management practices that integrate current and emerging precision technologies into Great Plains cropping systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a balanced applied and basic research program that generates new knowledge to solve relevant insect pest issues.
  • Interact with commodity and agricultural industry partners to identify and develop an innovative, nationally and internationally recognized extramurally funded research program.
  • Collaborate with SDSU Extension and research faculty, state, federal, tribal, local government, and non-profit and private agencies.
  • Participate in teaching activities at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Formal participation in multi-disciplinary, regional, and national research initiatives.
  • Undergraduate and graduate student advising and mentoring.
  • Service to the department, college, and university.
Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in Entomology, a field of invertebrate biology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Knowledge and experience in insect pest management strategies in US agriculture.
  • Potential for scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Potential for competitive grant writing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
