Job Title: Assistant Professor of Entomology

We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Assistant Professor of Entomology to join our team at South Dakota State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a research program that focuses on insect pest management in small grains, pulse crops, and sunflowers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a balanced applied and basic research program that generates new knowledge to solve relevant insect pest issues.
  • Interact with commodity and agricultural industry partners to identify and develop an innovative, nationally and internationally recognized extramurally funded research program.
  • Implement novel insect pest management practices that integrate current and emerging precision technologies into Great Plains cropping systems.
  • Collaborate with SDSU Extension and research faculty, state, federal, tribal, local government, and non-profit and private agencies.
  • Participate in teaching activities at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Formal participation in multi-disciplinary, regional, and national research initiatives.
  • Undergraduate and graduate student advising and mentoring.
  • Service to the department, college, and university.
Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in Entomology, a field of invertebrate biology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Knowledge and experience in insect pest management strategies in US agriculture.
  • Potential for scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Potential for competitive grant writing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
