Job Overview

Objective:

The primary aim is to assist residents in achieving their financial stability objectives, particularly those who are unemployed or underemployed. This role involves delivering personalized financial counseling services to participants throughout the Jobs Plus initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive annual financial assessments for each participant and formulate tailored financial plans.
  • Guide participants in interpreting their credit reports, addressing financial challenges, and devising strategies for credit enhancement.
  • Create actionable plans and supply resources to ensure client accountability, including coaching on effective budgeting techniques to meet individual goals.
  • Familiarize oneself with various financial literacy programs available through the agency and community, making suitable referrals as necessary.
  • Build a network of financial literacy professionals, including educators and counselors, to provide referrals for first-time homebuyer education and other community resources.
  • Promote and oversee new asset-building initiatives, such as Individual Development Accounts.
  • Maintain precise and confidential client records in both paper and electronic formats, ensuring accurate documentation of participant outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Employment Case Managers and Community Outreach Workers to enhance recruitment efforts through outreach initiatives.
  • Facilitate financial literacy workshops in both English and Spanish.
  • Input and update resident assessment and service utilization data into departmental databases.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associate degree in human services, business, finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in conducting financial education workshops.
  • 1-3 years of experience in providing one-on-one credit counseling to low-income families.
  • Experience with client financial data management systems.
  • Prior experience in the financial sector (banking, lending, insurance, investments).
  • Proficiency in Spanish is required.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of personal finance, particularly in budgeting, asset building, and credit improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as client management systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to interpret consumer credit reports for counseling purposes.
  • Ability to deliver financial counseling in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Knowledge of down payment assistance products and local first-time homebuyer programs.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in an office setting.
  • Flexible working hours may be required.

Equipment:

  • Competency in using computers, printers, and standard office equipment.
