Job Overview

Objective:

To assist residents in achieving their financial goals, particularly those who are unemployed or underemployed, within the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive financial evaluations with each participant and create tailored financial strategies.
  • Guide participants in understanding their credit reports, resolving financial challenges, and implementing credit enhancement strategies.
  • Formulate actionable plans and provide resources for client accountability, including coaching on effective budgeting to meet personalized objectives.
  • Familiarize oneself with other financial literacy programs available in the community and facilitate appropriate referrals.
  • Engage with a diverse network of financial literacy professionals to connect clients with educational resources, including first-time homebuyer classes.
  • Oversee and promote new asset-building initiatives, such as Individual Development Accounts.
  • Maintain precise and confidential client records using management systems to accurately document participant outcomes.
  • Support outreach efforts for program participation through various communication methods.
  • Lead financial literacy workshops in both English and Spanish.
  • Input and update participant assessment and service utilization data into departmental databases.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associate degree in human services, finance, business, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in delivering financial education workshops.
  • 1-3 years of experience in providing individual credit counseling to low-income families.
  • Experience with client financial data management systems.
  • Background in the financial sector (banking, lending, insurance, investments).
  • Proficiency in Spanish is required.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of personal finance, especially in budgeting, asset building, and credit improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and client management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Adept at interpreting consumer credit reports for counseling purposes.
  • Ability to provide culturally sensitive financial coaching.
  • Knowledge of down payment assistance programs and local first-time homebuyer resources.

Work Environment:

  • Office-based work environment.
  • Flexible work schedule of 20 hours per week.

Equipment:

  • Competency in using computers, printers, and standard office equipment.
