Job Overview

Objective:

The primary aim is to assist residents facing unemployment or underemployment in achieving their financial stability objectives. This role involves delivering personalized, one-on-one financial counseling services to participants engaged in the Jobs Plus initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct annual comprehensive financial evaluations with each participant and formulate tailored financial strategies.
  • Guide participants in interpreting their credit reports, addressing financial challenges, and implementing credit enhancement strategies.
  • Create actionable plans and provide resources for client accountability, including coaching on developing a sustainable monthly budget to meet personalized financial goals.
  • Familiarize oneself with other financial literacy programs and services available through the organization and community, making suitable referrals.
  • Network with a diverse array of financial literacy professionals, including educators and counselors, to provide client referrals to educational classes and community resources.
  • Promote and oversee new asset-building initiatives, such as Individual Development Accounts.
  • Maintain precise and confidential client records, both in paper and electronic formats, utilizing client management systems to accurately document participant outcomes.
  • Support Employment Case Managers and Community Outreach Workers in recruitment efforts through outreach activities and informational presentations.
  • Facilitate financial literacy workshops in both English and Spanish.
  • Input and update resident assessment and service utilization data into departmental databases.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associate degree in human services, business, finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in delivering financial education workshops.
  • 1-3 years of experience in providing individual credit counseling services to low-income families.
  • Experience with client financial data management systems.
  • Prior experience in the financial sector (banking, lending, insurance, investments).
  • Proficiency in Spanish is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of personal finance, particularly in budgeting, asset building, and credit development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, along with client management systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adept at interpreting consumer credit reports for counseling purposes.
  • Ability to deliver financial counseling services in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Knowledge of down payment assistance products and local first-time homebuyer programs.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to operate in an office setting.
  • Flexible work schedule of 20 hours per week.
  • Capability to work flexible hours as required.

Equipment:

  • Competence in using computers, printers, and standard office equipment.
