Position Summary:
The Purchasing Manager is tasked with steering the Purchasing Department and serving as the primary liaison with key suppliers, adhering to Medosweet Farms' policies and industry best practices. This role encompasses several critical responsibilities including 1) Department Leadership, 2) Product Sourcing, 3) Supplier Engagement, and 4) Spend Oversight. The ideal candidate will possess both professional acumen and industry insight to proactively identify opportunities, fulfill internal and external customer needs, and address product or supplier challenges. A high level of initiative and sound judgment is essential for achieving successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Department Leadership:
- Oversee the operations of the Purchasing Department.
- Provide guidance and direction to team members to ensure timely and effective results.
- Set departmental objectives, processes, and performance metrics to foster success.
Sourcing Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and source new products or suppliers as necessary.
- Ensure sourcing practices align with quality, service, value, and strategic relationship standards.
- Employ best practices in supplier and product sourcing, including information gathering, bidding, analysis, negotiations, and supplier selection.
- Evaluate sourcing requests to ensure comprehensive information is captured and maximize stakeholder opportunities.
Supplier Engagement:
- Enhance Medosweet's supplier network to boost efficiency and effectiveness.
- Establish pricing rules and reporting structures for suppliers.
- Develop supplier quality assurance processes.
- Formulate Master Supplier Agreements with key suppliers as needed.
- Address supplier-related issues regarding availability, service, quality, and pricing to create a competitive edge.
- Work towards efficient processes for identifying and resolving issues.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to meet documentation and information requirements.
Spend Oversight:
- Achieve annual profit improvement targets by collaborating with suppliers and stakeholders.
- Implement processes to regularly review and audit purchasing expenditures to secure cost savings and operational efficiencies.
Industry Insight:
- Monitor and analyze the impact of key commodity markets relevant to Medosweet (Dairy, Eggs, Cheese).
- Utilize this knowledge to inform pricing strategies and establish cost formulas for key products.
Purchasing Support:
- Foster collaboration with Sales, Warehouse, Distribution, and other key stakeholders.
- Maintain professional communication regarding issues, opportunities, and processes.
- Document key procedures to enhance Supply Management operations.
- Track monthly cost savings and rebates achieved.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures.
- Experience in Supply Management for perishable food products.
- Familiarity with dairy, cheese, egg, and food product commodity markets is preferred.
- Proficient in preparing and analyzing specifications, conducting negotiations, and qualifying suppliers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Adept at building and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Proficient in technology, including ERP, WMS Systems, and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Preferred Abilities:
- A minimum of seven years of purchasing experience with perishable commodities, including sourcing and cost negotiations.
A Bachelor's degree in Business or a Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) is preferred.
