PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in delivering focused educational experiences for students in designated areas while alleviating the instructor of various non-teaching responsibilities.
- Support the educator in managing student arrival and departure schedules.
- Perform supportive functions, primarily of a non-instructional nature, for a certified professional.
- Facilitate the teacher and students in meeting the goals of the educational program or activities.
- Maintain classroom discipline in the absence of the instructor.
- Contribute to a clean and organized classroom environment.
- Provide tutoring to students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up on learning activities.
- Assist the teacher in supervising students throughout the day, both inside and outside the classroom, including monitoring in hallways, lunchrooms, auditoriums, gyms, and playgrounds.
- Support the educator in maintaining administrative records and preparing necessary reports.
- Assist the teacher with the duplication, organization, and filing of materials for student distribution.
- Help with the inventory, care, and upkeep of educational equipment.
- Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or issues concerning individual students.
- Engage in professional development training programs to enhance job performance.
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Assist in decorating the classroom for special occasions, PTA meetings, holidays, etc.
- Perform all other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
- Regular and punctual attendance at the workplace is essential for this role.
The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate. Travel throughout the district is an integral part of this position. A remote working arrangement is not an option for campus-based employees, as regular attendance and performance of all duties at the worksite are essential job functions for all campus-based personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities necessary for this position:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate Degree or 48 college credit hours or successful completion of an academic assessment; Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
- Preferred six months of experience or successful completion of a specific training program for educational assistants.
- Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow both verbal and written instructions.
- General knowledge of child development and behavioral characteristics.
- Ability to perform supportive tasks primarily of a non-instructional nature for a certified professional.
- Assist the teacher and students in achieving the objectives of the educational program or activities.
- Flexibility to adapt to the challenges of a rapidly changing environment.
- Willingness to stay updated with the latest developments in the field.
