Position Title: Senior Accountant

Company: Open Mortgage LLC

Role Summary:

The Senior Accountant is tasked with managing mortgage accounting transactions, ensuring accurate general ledger reconciliations, and supporting cash management activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and enhance efficient accounting procedures.
  • Adhere to company policies and maintain proper segregation of duties.
  • Ensure timely and precise recording of all financial transactions in the General Ledger.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies that may occur.

Primary Focus Areas:

  • Oversee cash balances and maintain sufficient funds in company accounts; assist with bank transfers and wire transactions.
  • Calculate and accrue commissions and other loan-related compensations promptly.
  • Support the setup and monitoring of commission profiles within company software.
  • Conduct month-end close reconciliations, including bank statement reconciliations and other general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve aged or uncleared balances in assigned accounts.
  • Prepare and record journal entries for payroll and other transactions.
  • Assist in processing and recording borrower payments and other financial transactions.
  • Facilitate wire or ACH transactions and provide necessary confirmations.
  • Respond to inquiries directed to the accounting group through various communication channels.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Additional Support May Include:

  • Daily mortgage loan accounting transactions, including loan fundings and sales.
  • Daily warehouse bank settlements and related accounting activities.
  • Daily reconciliations of cash transfers for borrower escrow account balances.

Required Competencies:

  • Strong grasp of accounting principles, including debits and credits.
  • Understanding of assets, liabilities, equity, income, and expenses.
  • Knowledge of cash versus accrual basis accounting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data integrity maintenance, and advanced functions.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to transaction accuracy.
  • Ability to manage high volumes of transactions efficiently without compromising accuracy.
  • Capability to work independently.
  • Positive and proactive attitude towards problem-solving.
  • Willingness to seek process improvements within company software.

Work Environment:

This position allows for a hybrid work model, with occasional remote work permitted upon approval.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of mortgage-related accounting experience or 3-5 years in a senior accounting role with a focus on balance sheet reconciliations and high data volumes.
  • Experience in preparing and posting journal entries using a general ledger system.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with Loan Vision Accounting system is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience with Encompass Loan Origination System is a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this role include regular communication, frequent standing and walking, and the ability to lift up to 15 pounds when necessary. This position may require extended periods of sitting and working on a computer.
