Position: Senior Accountant

Role Summary

The Senior Accountant will oversee the documentation of mortgage accounting transactions, ensure the accuracy of general ledger accounts, and support cash management activities.

Key Responsibilities

All assigned accounting tasks should be executed with the following guiding principles:

  • Enhance and adhere to efficient procedures
  • Implement and uphold company policies, including the segregation of duties
  • Guarantee the timely and precise recording of all transactions in the General Ledger
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies as they arise

Primary Focus Areas Include:

  • Oversee cash balances and ensure sufficient funds are maintained in company accounts; engage in bank transfers and wire transactions
  • Calculate and accrue commissions and other loan-related compensations on a regular basis
  • Assist in establishing and managing commission profiles within the company’s commission software
  • Conduct month-end close reconciliations, including bank statement reconciliations and other general ledger account reconciliations
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve aged or uncleared balances in assigned accounts
  • Prepare and record journal entries for payroll and other financial activities
  • Support the processing, depositing, and recording of borrower payments and other checks
  • Assist in researching and documenting cash activities, including deposits and payments
  • Facilitate the initiation of wire or ACH transactions and provide necessary confirmations
  • Respond to inquiries directed to the accounting group via various communication channels
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Additional Support May Include:

  • Daily mortgage loan accounting transactions, such as loan fundings and sales
  • Daily settlements for warehouse banks and related accounting transactions
  • Daily reconciliations and cash transfers for borrower escrow account balances

Required Competencies

  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles, including debits and credits
  • Knowledge of the distinctions between assets, liabilities, equity, income, and expenses
  • Familiarity with cash versus accrual basis accounting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data integrity maintenance, and use of functions such as Sum, Subtotal, and Pivot Tables
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to manage a high volume of transactions efficiently without compromising accuracy
  • Comfortable working autonomously
  • Positive and proactive attitude
  • Capability to identify process improvements and propose solutions within company software

Work Environment

This position offers a hybrid work model. The Senior Accountant is expected to work primarily from the corporate office, with occasional remote work permitted upon approval.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of mortgage-related accounting experience or 3-5 years in a senior accounting role with a focus on balance sheet reconciliations and high data volume
  • Experience in preparing and posting journal entries using a general ledger system
  • Strong attention to detail and confidentiality
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with Loan Vision Accounting system is preferred, but not mandatory
  • Experience with Encompass Loan Origination System is a plus, but not required

Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this role include regular communication, frequent standing and walking, and the ability to lift up to 15 pounds. The role may involve extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
