Nurse Residency Program: Medical or Surgical Track

We are committed to supporting new nurses in their transition to practice. Our Nurse Residency Program is designed to provide a comprehensive and structured learning experience for nurses new to practice.
Program Highlights- Accredited with distinction as a Practice Transition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs
- Research demonstrates that new to practice nurses completing a structured and accredited residency program leads to increased competency, reduction of error, reduced self-reported stress, and increased job satisfaction
Our Nurse Residency Program integrates lecture and simulation education, peer support, and up to 16 weeks of preceptor-led clinical experiences. The program is designed to foster critical thinking, evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, effective communication, quality and safety, and professional development.
Eligibility- Graduating from an accredited registered nursing school (BSN preferred)
- BLS required
- Less than 12 months of nursing experience by the start of the program
- Eligible for Delaware license as a Graduate Nurse/Registered Nurse or multi-state RN from a compact state
Submit a cover letter expressing your interest in the Nurse Residency Program, along with your resume and transcripts. Two clinical recommendations will be required, but not at the time of the application. If selected, you will be contacted for a video interview and clinical references.
What to ExpectAfter application, you will receive communication from our Talent Acquisition Team about specific next steps, including video interviews and clinical references. We are conducting in-person interviews every Wednesday and Thursday. To be interviewed, you must have completed a video on-demand interview through HireVue and have both clinical instructor references completed.

Our Medical and Surgical units at Newark and Wilmington campuses serve an adolescent/adult/geriatric population with a wide variety of complex diagnoses and surgical procedures. Nurses having successfully completed the residency will have built a strong foundation for nursing practice in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
