Position Summary:
Under general supervision, the Operating Engineer IV is responsible for the operation of engine generators, electric blowers, and related equipment within the power plant and digester areas. This role includes performing minor maintenance tasks throughout the power plant in a wastewater treatment environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all safety regulations, policies, and procedures while performing assigned tasks. Participate in mandatory safety training and report any unsafe conditions encountered.
  • Monitor and operate engine generators to ensure a consistent supply of electric power to the facility, adjusting operations to meet varying electrical demands.
  • Manage electric blowers to provide low-pressure compressed air for the purification process, ensuring operations align with established parameters.
  • Oversee additional power plant machinery, including sludge heaters, cooling/heating pumps, and gas compressors.
  • Ensure proper quality and quantity of gas flow to the engine room and/or gas storage facilities.
  • Monitor and operate low-pressure steam and hot water boilers.
  • Conduct regular inspections of all operational equipment, including checking dials and gauges.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks in the blower generator digester building, such as engine adjustments, lubrication, and cleaning.
  • Maintain a detailed electronic and/or paper log of work activities for the subsequent shift, summarizing all relevant changes and required reports.
  • Keep equipment clean and maintain an organized work area, promptly reporting any unsafe conditions or equipment malfunctions.
  • Collect samples and conduct tests for cooling/heating loop water and low-pressure boiler water.
  • Utilize the Rockwell SCADA system for monitoring and operations.
  • Manage electrical distribution systems effectively.
  • Execute other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED Equivalent, or higher education.
  • A minimum of two years of engine operating experience or three years of experience in operating and/or maintaining heavy equipment.

Required Certifications/Licenses/Training:

  • A valid Wisconsin Driver's License is mandatory.
  • ASOPE First Class Operating Engineer's License is required within two years of appointment.
