Shift/Time Zone: Tuesday - Saturday 7am-3:30pm

Job Overview: The Pre-Analytical Assistant I plays a crucial role in supporting the Technical Operations Department by ensuring efficient specimen management.

Key Responsibilities:

1. **Data Entry and Organization:** Basic data entry skills are essential, along with strong organizational capabilities.

2. **Specimen Knowledge:** Familiarity with various specimen types related to the tests ordered is necessary, including understanding clinical department requirements for specimen types and quantities.

3. **Compliance Awareness:** Knowledge of compliance regulations concerning test ordering, which may vary daily, is required.

4. **Adaptability:** A flexible approach and willingness to embrace change and pursue continuous improvement are vital.

5. **Customer Commitment:** A dedication to meeting both internal and external customer needs while performing routine responsibilities is expected.

6. **Team Collaboration:** Actively contributing to a team-oriented environment is important, along with the ability to support departmental goals regarding staffing needs during weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.

7. **Task Proficiency:** Tasks must be executed with confidence, accuracy, and timeliness, including but not limited to:
- Sorting
- Racking
- Pickup and delivery of specimens to the laboratory
- Specimen storage
- Centrifugation
- Aliquoting

Performance Expectations:

1. Demonstrate the ability to learn assigned duties and understand how functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing interconnect and impact quality.

2. Identify and resolve issues related to specimen types and missing information, ensuring timely problem resolution.

3. Understand compliance policies related to test ordering and develop the ability to research test order information.

4. Meet quality and production standards within six months of training completion.

5. Complete all required documentation clearly and legibly within designated time frames.

6. Adhere to attendance guidelines and support departmental performance during coworker absences.

7. Learn additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing for career progression.

8. Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Work Environment and Requirements:

1. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a production environment.

2. Effective communication skills with all staff levels, both verbally and in writing.

3. Maintain composure under pressure.

4. Exhibit good judgment in problem resolution.

5. Adhere to safety, compliance, and work process policies.

6. Work in a biohazard environment, following all safety protocols.

7. Keep work areas organized and clean, complying with 5S standards.

8. Physical ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

9. Strong interpersonal skills that promote a positive work atmosphere.

10. Flexibility in work assignments and adaptability to change.

11. Some flexibility in work schedule is required.

Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or GED is required.

2. A medical background is preferred, including knowledge of medical terminology relevant to a clinical laboratory.

3. Previous experience in a production environment is advantageous.

4. Familiarity with mainframe computers is preferred.
