We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant II to join our team at Memorial Healthcare System. As a Laboratory Assistant II, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory testing and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare specimens for analysis by registering and accessioning orders via Hospital Information System and Laboratory Information Systems (clinical lab and/or anatomic pathology), verifying specimen acceptability.
- Perform established pre-analytical and analytical laboratory procedures, not requiring Medical Technologist or Histotechnologist interpretation, in accordance with established laboratory policy in an accurate, safe, and timely manner.
- Assist in the preparation and processing of bone marrow specimens.
- Assist with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, and transporting specimens.
- Perform clerical duties, including maintaining equipment and adequate stock of supplies, and maintaining work area in a safe, aseptic, and organized manner.
- Provide laboratory customer service, including requests for add-ons, specimen collection information, phlebotomy requests, result inquiry, etc.
- Perform the phlebotomy function to ensure accurate and timely processing of lab test orders.
- Complete culture setup of microbiology samples and gram stain preparation when staffed in Microbiology department.
- Operate, maintain, and repair clinical laboratory equipment within the scope of training, including waived testing, routine preventative maintenance, calibrations, quality control, and safety checks.
- Provide support functions to technologists, including loading and maintaining instruments, making up of reagents, thawing, pooling, importing, and issuing of blood products, and maintenance and function checks.
- Keep appropriate persons informed of instrument problems and resolutions.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Six (6) months of work experience
- Certification in Phlebotomy is preferred
The Laboratory Assistant II will work in a fast-paced laboratory environment and will be required to perform physical tasks, including bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting. The employee will also be required to work with hazardous materials and equipment.
