Colonial Pipeline is the leading refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting over 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels daily. It delivers various fuel types, including gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, through its extensive pipeline network. Serving approximately 45% of the fuel consumption on the East Coast, Colonial plays a crucial role in supplying fuel to over 50 million Americans.

Overview of the Operations Manager Position

The Operations Manager (OM) is responsible for overseeing all activities within the Operating Area to ensure the safe and efficient operation of Colonial's facilities. This role involves ensuring the timely transportation and delivery of products to meet customer satisfaction. The primary goal is to maintain safety, system integrity, and operational excellence by effectively leading and managing employee performance in alignment with organizational strategies and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all operational activities, staff performance, safety protocols, quality assurance, budgeting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and train employees to cultivate skilled, efficient, and productive teams.
  • Clearly communicate performance expectations, providing timely feedback and coaching to enhance employee performance.
  • Exhibit leadership and encourage cross-functional collaboration for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, government agencies, and local communities.
  • Engage with emergency response officials and first responders to ensure preparedness and adherence to safety protocols.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in a technical or business-related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in operations or business within pipeline operations or a related industry, including supervisory roles.
  • Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance from the work location.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to guide individuals and teams towards successful task completion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations such as DOT 195 (PHMSA), OSHA, and state environmental laws.
  • Knowledge of pipeline operations, including tank farms, booster stations, and delivery facilities.
  • Commitment to consistently uphold company policies and values.
  • Self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic seeking growth within a supportive environment.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Engineering.
  • Prior experience with Colonial or in the pipeline industry.
  • 7-9 years of operational experience in pipeline operations or a related industry, or equivalent experience without a degree; crisis management experience is desirable.

Physical Requirements & Work Conditions:

Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations. Normal job pressure with occasional high-stress scenarios during emergencies. Work environment includes field offices, pipeline right-of-way areas, and operational zones. Must be aware of associated hazards.
