Job Summary

Mary Cariola Children's Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team. As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in facilitating the personal growth and development of our residents with developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement individualized program plans to promote active participation and engagement of residents in their homes and communities.
  • Develop and implement behavior support plans and Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-r) to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff members to provide comprehensive care and support to residents, including lifting, moving, and positioning tasks as needed.
  • Facilitate improved gross motor, fine motor, and range of motion skills through various activities and exercises.
  • Assist residents with daily living tasks, such as bathing, toileting, dressing, and eating, while promoting self-care and personal hygiene.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks, including meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and shopping, to maintain a clean and comfortable living environment.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with residents through various means, including sign language, pictograms, and electronic devices.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all required documentation, including PrecisionCare software and written records.
  • Adhere to HIPAA confidentiality laws and the Code of Ethics for Direct Support Professionals.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, case reviews, in-service sessions, and other meetings as scheduled or requested by the Residence Manager.
  • Implement fire, safety, and emergency procedures in accordance with agency and program standards.
  • Assist with fire drills and maintain a safe and secure environment for residents.
  • Drive agency or personal vehicles when necessary and maintain Approved Driver Status within the agency.
  • Administer medications to residents in accordance with Residential Medication policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to participate in various physical and recreational activities outside the residence.
  • Must possess a current and valid NYS driver's license with an acceptable driving record (full-time only).
  • Have reliable transportation (none of the group homes are located on a bus route).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 months or more experience in a similar role.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Certifications and Trainings

  • NYS Medication Administration.
  • SCIP-r.
  • CPR.
  • First Aid.
  • All other trainings mandated by the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).

Note: All certifications and trainings will be provided by the agency if you do not already possess them.
