Job Title: Director of Government Relations and Communications

Join the Oregon School Boards Association (OSBA) as we seek a dynamic and experienced Director of Government Relations and Communications to lead our advocacy efforts and oversee our communication strategies.

About the Role

This key leadership position will involve building relationships with state and local government officials, monitoring legislative developments, and representing OSBA and PACE in public forums. You will also be responsible for managing all internal and external communications to ensure consistent, clear messaging that supports OSBA's mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute government relations strategies advocating for public education and school boards in Oregon.
  • Build and maintain relationships with state/local government officials, the Oregon Legislature, and other key stakeholders.
  • Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory changes impacting education and advise OSBA leadership.
  • Represent OSBA at legislative hearings, meetings, and task forces.
  • Lead communication strategies for OSBA and PACE, including media relations, press releases, and crisis communication.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for OSBA and PACE.
  • Oversee the development of communication materials to increase awareness and member engagement.
  • Support internal communications in a hybrid work environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 7-10 years of experience in government relations, public policy, or communications, preferably in education or nonprofit sectors.
  • Proven success in developing and managing government relations and communication strategies.
  • Strong understanding of Oregon's legislative processes and public education system.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management experience.
