Welcome to the Radiologic Technologist Role

Position Overview:

The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for executing Diagnostic Radiographic Procedures in accordance with departmental guidelines, regulatory standards, and best practices. This role serves as the primary point of contact for patients, ensuring their imaging requirements are met effectively. Involvement in Performance Improvement and Quality Control initiatives is expected, along with the management of image processing and transmission to PACS.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Position patients and determine technical settings for all diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Adhere to departmental examination protocols.
  • Complete all assigned examinations per established protocols and document any deviations.
  • Adjust patient protocols considering individual physical and cognitive capabilities, consulting with the Radiologist as necessary.
  • Ensure accurate labeling of all exams with patient ID, date, technologist ID, and time of exam, utilizing lead markers.
  • Safeguard patients during transport and throughout procedures.
  • Comply with JCAHO, CMS, State, and Federal regulations.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques and uphold infection control standards.
  • Assess and address any pain affecting imaging procedures, contacting physicians for intervention when required.
  • Engage in Performance Improvement processes.
  • Set technical factors accurately to minimize radiation exposure to patients.
  • Implement Radiation Safety Techniques during radiographic procedures and provide appropriate shielding for patients.
  • Adhere to all radiation safety protocols for patients, staff, and family members.
  • Wear radiation monitoring badges as per departmental guidelines.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment consistently and appropriately.
  • Educate patients and their families about the procedures being performed.
  • Confirm patient understanding of the imaging process.
  • Ensure that consent forms are signed prior to examinations when necessary.
  • Verify patient identification using at least two methods before exams.
  • Mitigate the risk of healthcare-associated infections through proper hand hygiene and equipment disinfection.
  • Document any medication reactions or infiltrations on the designated forms.
  • Enhance communication effectiveness among healthcare providers.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  1. Graduate of a JRCERT accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  2. Current Ohio and ARRT licensure along with CPR certification.
  3. Familiarity with State and Federal regulations and The Joint Commission standards.
  4. Current Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification.

  • Consistently follows standard and transmission-based precautions through appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
  • Understands and applies Continuous Quality Improvement principles in daily tasks.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment, particularly in personal work areas.
  • Identifies and addresses workplace hazards, reporting unsafe conditions to supervisors.
  • Exhibits strong safety practices and judgment to ensure a safe working environment.
Physical Demands:
1. Sitting: 3-6 hours/day
2. Standing: 3-6 hours/day
3. Walking: 3-6 hours/day
4. Bending: less than 3 hours/day
5. Pulling: less than 3 hours/day
6. Pushing: less than 3 hours/day
7. Lifting: up to 50 pounds or more with assistance
8. Wrist movement (side to side and up and down): 3-6 hours/day
9. Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals or infections.
