Position Overview

Role Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant I provides essential clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers and team members in an outpatient clinic environment. This role operates under the clinical supervision of the provider for patient care tasks and under the general guidance of the designated manager/supervisor for non-clinical duties.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conducts the rooming and/or intake process, gathering and documenting vital information, including vital signs, height, weight, and details regarding the patient's visit.
2. Collects comprehensive patient and family information, including medical and social history.
3. Reviews the patient's current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
4. Assists the provider as needed during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
5. Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy tasks.
6. Administers medications under the provider's direction.
7. Conducts tests, such as EKGs and eye exams, under the provider's supervision.
8. Reviews patient records to identify necessary routine health screenings.
9. Ensures that exam/procedure rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials for patient visits.
10. Provides patients with after-visit instructions, follow-up care, self-care guidance, or educational materials as directed.
11. Prepares, cleans, stocks, and maintains exam and treatment rooms.
12. Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments.
13. Assists with patient registration, check-in/check-out processes, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
14. Answers clinic phone calls and manages in-basket tasks under the direction of a provider or nurse.
15. Provides assistance in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.

Additional Information:
Education Requirements:
● No specific education required if other qualifications are met.
● Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is preferred but not mandatory.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Medical Assistant certification from AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA is required.
● Basic Life Support Certification from AHA or ARC is mandatory.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Previous experience as a medical assistant or in a medical assistant externship is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Ability to perform essential functions of the position as outlined.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to engage positively with patients and families and collaborate effectively with staff and providers.
● Proficient in using a computer for documenting required information in the electronic medical record.
