The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) is a leading provider of human services in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for Cambridge residents by creating and coordinating services that address the complex needs of our community.

About the Role

The Division Head will provide strategic leadership and direction for the City of Cambridge's efforts to eliminate homelessness and promote housing stability. This role will oversee the development and implementation of policies and programs aimed at addressing the root causes of homelessness and providing support services to individuals and families in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the City's homelessness and housing initiatives, including policy development, program planning, and budget management.
  • Collaborate with community partners, including non-profit organizations, government agencies, and private sector stakeholders, to leverage resources and expertise in support of the City's homelessness and housing goals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including City Council members, community leaders, and residents, to ensure that the City's homelessness and housing initiatives are responsive to community needs and priorities.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of data-driven strategies to address homelessness and housing instability, including the use of data analytics and performance metrics to inform policy and program decisions.
  • Provide supervision and support to a team of staff, including program managers, case workers, and other professionals, to ensure that they have the resources and expertise needed to effectively address the needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices and emerging trends in homelessness and housing, and apply this knowledge to inform policy and program decisions.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership position in human services, affordable housing, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading strategic planning or multi-stakeholder planning processes.
  • Strong knowledge of community responses to homelessness and of issues related to housing and income insecurity.
  • Strong supervisory skills and proven ability to lead a diverse team.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with partners from a variety of sectors.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
