Role Summary

The Cost Accountant will play a crucial role in managing cost accounting functions, financial reporting, and analysis, as well as overseeing month-end financial closings and audits. This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in month-end closing activities, including the analysis of purchase price and order variances. Collaborate with operations to rectify any discrepancies and prepare journal entries.
  • Examine inventory accounting and cost of goods sold (COGS) to guarantee precise financial reporting.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of product cost data, including:
    • Updating and reviewing standard costs, including Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings.
    • Collaborating with plant operations and engineering to maintain routings.
    • Working with purchasing to acquire new material and packaging costs for input into the financial system.
    • Estimating standard costs for new product offerings.
  • Support inventory management efforts by:
    • Assisting the accounting analyst and inventory team in conducting and reviewing cycle counts and physical inventories.
    • Cooperating with the materials review board to ensure appropriate reserves for obsolete inventory.
    • Reconciling inventory with the general ledger.
  • Prepare reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and manage outstanding items to resolution.
  • Contribute to the budgeting and forecasting processes, including:
    • Annual standard cost development, reviewing BOMs, routings, and material costs.
    • Preparation of labor and overhead rates for various business segments.
    • Local site spending budgets and accurate allocation of expenditures to business units.
  • Assist in documenting procedures as necessary.
  • Participate in special projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
  • Detail-oriented with robust analytical capabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in cost accounting, ideally within the manufacturing sector.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Cost Accounting Standards.
  • Aptitude for researching, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting data.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all organizational levels.
  • This position is safety-sensitive and requires successful completion of a post-offer drug screening.
