SUMMARY:

The Systems Engineer Lead is responsible for defining and formulating specifications for server, mass storage, and network requirements in alignment with the strategic objectives of the organization. This role ensures that operating systems and associated applications are regularly updated and patched according to the guidelines provided by manufacturers or vendors. The engineer will implement supporting utilities and maintain applications that support operating systems, firmware, and hardware. Additionally, this position oversees upgrades to the technical infrastructure and program products to ensure they remain at current release levels. The engineer will also resolve intricate issues affecting operating systems, applications, hardware, firmware, and networks while mentoring less experienced software engineers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This role leads initiatives aimed at improving technical support quality through data collection, process changes, and other relevant activities.

It involves developing project plans of varying complexity and collaborating with business functional areas to define scope, approach, and resource requirements.

The Systems Engineer Lead directs teams in quality activities by educating, coaching, and mentoring staff on process improvement philosophies, tools, and applications.

Furthermore, this position comprehends the business strategy and assists in translating business requirements into strategic technical plans for information systems.

Regular communication of status reports in accordance with departmental standards is expected.

Proactive identification and communication of potential issues are essential.

The engineer diagnoses and resolves complex problems, maintains software release levels, and performs upgrades to system software, ensuring compatibility across systems.

Responsibilities also include formulating specifications for complex operating software programming applications and developing documentation and testing plans for intricate system software and hardware.

This role involves determining, documenting, and presenting information for the selection and implementation of vendor products to meet organizational needs.

Installation and configuration of complex operating systems, systems software, utilities, databases, and application software are also part of the responsibilities.

Monitoring and completing work as outlined in Statements of Work (SOWs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs), or project plans is required.

Providing technical guidance to various levels of staff and customers is a key function.

Researching new developments in hardware and software and integrating this knowledge with business operations is essential.

Adherence to organizational and departmental safety, confidentiality, values, policies, and standards is mandatory.

Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of four (4) years of experience in system engineering, preferably in a leadership role within a healthcare setting.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: None required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all phases of software systems programming applications.
  • Proficiency in one or more areas such as operating system engineering, messaging, database administration, storage management, interface coding, thin client technology, and/or technical project management.
  • Ability to assess system issues and recommend appropriate solutions to management.
  • Skill in leading and training team members.
  • Capability to read, analyze, and interpret general business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Effectiveness in presenting information and responding to inquiries or complaints from employees, patients, and the general public.
  • Competence in calculating figures and computing rates, ratios, and percentages, as well as interpreting bar graphs; basic algebraic concepts are applicable.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Capability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage several abstract and concrete variables.
