Working at Moffitt is more than just a job; it is a mission to contribute to cancer prevention and treatment.

Position Overview:

A Transplant Financial Specialist at Moffitt Cancer Center plays a crucial role in evaluating clinical orders and researching intricate insurance coverage details to formulate financial expectations for prospective Bone Marrow Transplant patients, donors, and their families. Given the complexity and high costs associated with Bone Marrow Transplants, patients and their families require comprehensive financial guidance to make informed decisions regarding the transplant process.

The responsibilities of the Transplant Financial Specialist include verifying insurance benefits (including carve-outs and special contracts), generating detailed cost estimates for the transplant process, and considering long-term non-hospital expenses such as prescription drug coverage and personal costs. This role also involves obtaining referrals and authorizations for all services related to the treatment series while maintaining regular communication with clinical teams and patients throughout the entire process.

Attention to detail is paramount, as the specialist must review each patient's treatment plan and insurance benefits to ensure accuracy and secure pre-certification or authorization from the payer and/or primary care physician. High levels of focus, critical thinking, and effective time management are essential to meet performance objectives.

Successful candidates for the Transplant Financial Specialist position will possess strong computer and software navigation skills, be comfortable with medical terminology, and have the ability to comprehend and research clinical information. They should be organized and thrive in a structured environment. Supporting the unique needs of cancer patients requires the ability to remain calm under pressure and work effectively with tight deadlines and competing priorities. Team members work independently yet collaboratively to achieve departmental goals.

Financial counseling may be conducted via phone or email, necessitating strong verbal and written communication skills. The Transplant Financial Specialist must be adept at providing customer service through these channels. Given the complexities faced by patients, the specialist must demonstrate compassion and patience, serving not only as a financial guide but also as a supportive resource throughout the patient's journey from a financial perspective.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Insurance verification and benefits assessment
  • Cost estimation and collections
  • Referral and authorization management
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in data processing, hospital registration, insurance verification, and insurance pre-certification/authorization with a healthcare provider or insurance company is required.
Certifications:
  • Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) certification must be obtained within six months of hire; renewal is not required, and certification tracking will be managed by the business.
Equal Employment Opportunity:

Moffitt Cancer Center is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, or protected veteran or disabled status. We seek candidates whose skills and experiences contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.
