As a Policy and Legislative Affairs Specialist with the DC Public Charter School Board, you will play a vital role in shaping the organization's policy agenda and advocating for the interests of public charter schools. This position requires a unique blend of government relations expertise, strategic thinking, and exceptional communication skills.
Main Responsibilities
  • Stay informed about legislative and policy developments at all levels of government, from the DC Council to the Federal level.
  • Support the development of testimony, briefing memos, and other materials for the DC Council, leveraging your knowledge of government relations and politics.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including legislative staff and community groups, to advance the goals of the External Affairs Department.
  • Monitor and document public conversations in various forums to ensure effective reputation management and identify opportunities for advocacy.
  • Conduct research and draft policy briefs to support advocacy efforts, demonstrating your ability to analyze complex information and think critically.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop strategic partnerships and drive results-oriented solutions.

Essential Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as political science, public policy, or education.
  • At least two years of experience in government relations, politics, or a related field.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • A deep understanding of government relations and local politics, with a passion for equity in urban public education.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this position is $70,898-$85,885 per year, with a comprehensive benefits package covering 100% of the employee's insurance premium.
