Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Process Safety Technical Support Engineer to join our Global Engineering team in the United States. As a Process Safety Technical Support Engineer, you will be responsible for collaborating with various operating divisions, regional and site EHS staff and engineers, and site leaders to develop cost-effective process safety engineering technical solutions.

Main Responsibilities

- Collaborate with operating divisions, regional and site EHS staff and engineers, and site leaders to develop cost-effective process safety engineering technical solutions.
- Develop innovative solutions and deliver impactful services across all Business Units, Sites, and Functions aimed at driving and supporting best practices to maximize potential and performance for Asset Safety & Integrity.
- Implement API, NFPA, ASME codes and standards, support site design and calculations for pressure safety valves, and utilize process engineering tools to ensure compliance with local regulations and BASF requirements.
- Perform ASPEN models, FlareNet, and Flow calculations.
- Assist sites in conducting process safety gap analysis, identifying strengths and weaknesses in process safety programs, and providing recommendations to address gaps related to process safety information, explosion protection, overpressure protection, plant inspection and maintenance, and management of change.
- Collaborate with Regional Process Safety and North America Technical Experts in Explosion Protection Documentations, perform inerting calculations, and design Flashback Protection Devices.
- Support sites in Facility Siting Studies, utilize PHAST or SafeSite software to model scenarios like pool fire, jet fire, and vapor cloud explosions, and lead the team in effectively mitigating any siting deficiencies in a practical and cost-effective manner.
- Lead and facilitate compliance with OSHA PSM and Responsible Care requirements, improve the quality of process hazards assessments, and ensure proper documentation and knowledge sharing to enhance safety in BASF sites.
- Perform calculations, simulations, and modeling for overpressure protections, explosion protections, material flow analysis, thermodynamic analysis, and consequence assessment, while also providing support for PSM/RC audits and assisting sites in addressing action items.

Requirements

- Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Have process engineering background with a solid technical foundation in chemical process safety engineering.
- Possess 5+ years of experience in Process Safety and/or Process Engineering in the chemical industry.
- Have comprehensive knowledge of Process Hazards & Risk Assessments.
- Demonstrate a proven track record in working with OSHA PSM and EPA RMP standards, complemented by comprehensive understanding of explosion protection and NFPA codes and standards.
- Display a strong command of the API and CCPS guidelines.
