Position Overview:

The University of Evansville is seeking a highly skilled Principal Horn to join its esteemed faculty and perform with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. This role includes approximately 90 services with the orchestra, encompassing all orchestra and consortium engagements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Principal Horn for the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • Instruct horn students in a studio setting.
  • Engage in chamber music performances alongside faculty members.
  • Contribute as Horn faculty for the annual Shepard Summer Music Camp.
  • Participate in recruitment and admissions initiatives.
  • Fulfill additional teaching responsibilities to maintain a half-time workload.

Qualifications:

Applicants should demonstrate exceptional artistic proficiency through solo, chamber, and orchestral performances, coupled with a strong dedication to education.

  • Required: A Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Desirable: Experience in college-level teaching.

The collaboration between the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and the University of Evansville is integral to the selection and employment of consortium personnel.

The University of Evansville is recognized for its comprehensive and selective admissions process, offering a robust liberal arts and sciences curriculum alongside professional programs. The Music Conservatory hosts over 65 undergraduate music majors and encourages significant participation from non-majors in various ensembles. Degree offerings include Music Education, Music Therapy, Music Management, Performance, and General Studies.

The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra presents a diverse subscription series each season, featuring classical and pops programs, youth concerts, and outreach initiatives. The organization also supports two Youth Orchestras and a large adult chorus.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary for this position is approximately $30,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with benefits including disability, health, and life insurance.

Audition and Interview Process:

Auditions will consist of an orchestral performance, followed by interviews focusing on pedagogical experience and philosophy, collaborative readings with faculty chamber groups, and a short teaching demonstration.
