Job Overview

The role of the Hardware Support Specialist is to ensure the effective operation and maintenance of in-house technological equipment and IT assets. This encompasses the installation, configuration, diagnosis, repair, and enhancement of all organizational hardware and equipment, while guaranteeing peak performance. The individual will also address issues promptly and accurately, providing training and assistance to end users as necessary.


Key Responsibilities

· Serve as the primary responder to hardware and software inquiries from end users (both on-site and remotely).

· Conduct on-site assessments, diagnoses, and resolutions for intricate PC issues affecting various end users, and suggest and implement corrective hardware measures, including off-site repairs when required.

· Configure and procure desktop and laptop computers as authorized by the IT manager for employees.

· Set up, install software, and provide training for all new desktop and laptop computers acquired.

· Configure and procure desktop and laptop computers as necessary for various projects.

· Provide support for IT infrastructure as required (including wireless networks, servers, switches, etc.).

· Assist with the phone system as needed.

· Manage network file storage as directed by the IT manager.

· Document instances of hardware failures, repairs, installations, and removals accurately.

· Aid in the development of long-term strategies and capacity planning to meet future IT hardware requirements.

· Maintain current knowledge of hardware and equipment contracts and oversee contract-based installations.

· Research computer products to support PC procurement and development initiatives. Evaluate and recommend hardware products for acquisition.

· Draft technical specifications for the purchase of PCs, networking hardware, and related products.

· Propose, schedule, and execute improvements, upgrades, and repairs for PCs, hardware, and peripheral devices.

· Archive completed projects as instructed by the IT Manager.

· Construct, install, and test customized configurations across various platforms and operating systems.

· If necessary, coordinate with third-party support and vendors for PC and related equipment.


Position Qualifications

· Practical experience in hardware troubleshooting.

· Proficient in operating tools, components, and peripheral accessories.

· Capable of reading and comprehending technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.

· Ability to conduct research into PC-related issues and products as needed.

· Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

· Understanding of the organization's objectives and goals.

· Self-driven and directed.

· Detail-oriented with a keen eye for accuracy.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively.

· Experience working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

· Strong customer service orientation.

· Position may require prolonged periods of sitting or standing.

· Capable of standing, walking, pushing or pulling carts, reaching overhead, bending, and occasionally exerting force as necessary to perform job functions.

· Near vision acuity with or without accommodation.


Education & Certification

· Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field, or an Associate's degree with two years of relevant experience.
