Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Surgical Endoscopy Specialist is tasked with delivering exceptional care to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures within the facility, adhering to established protocols. This role requires effective collaboration with physicians and healthcare team members, demonstrating strong teamwork skills. Responsibilities may include ensuring the proper handling and maintenance of instruments and equipment, as well as assisting in patient transport to and from the procedure area. The specialist also plays a key role in maintaining the cleanliness of the procedure environment and facilitating room turnover.


QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• BLS certification

• Preferred: One (1) year of experience as an endoscopy technologist

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Aids in preparing patients for designated procedures as directed by the physician

• Assists the physician during endoscopic procedures

• Manages patient specimens in accordance with policy

• Completes laboratory and culture/path slips accurately as required

• Reports any observed changes in patient condition to the Endoscopy/Recovery Room nurse (if applicable)

• Restocks supplies appropriately after procedures or at the end of the day

• Collaborates with the healthcare team to prepare the endoscopy suite according to the needs of the patient, physician, and procedure, including assembling and providing properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments

• Works with the endoscopy team to ensure high-level disinfection and/or sterilization of instruments and supplies per policy and procedure

• Adheres to manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning, high-level disinfection, or sterilization of instruments and/or equipment

• Cleans the endoscopy suite between cases and performs daily terminal cleaning following center policies

• Assists in maintaining adequate inventory of supplies

• Actively participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) and Safety Programs

• Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to the Code of Conduct

• Complies with center policies and procedures

• Exhibits a caring, respectful, sensitive, tactful, compassionate, empathetic, and tolerant attitude

• Ensures a safe environment for patients

• Communicates safety concerns appropriately, following the Chain of Command

• Legibly documents necessary information in the performance of duties

• Promotes patient and physician satisfaction

• Practices appropriate aseptic techniques and sterile processes relevant to the endoscopy suite

• Wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Observes universal precautions

• Refers situations beyond capability to the appropriate personnel

• Maintains regular and predictable attendance

• Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned

• Attends all required educational sessions

• Works collaboratively with the healthcare team

• Demonstrates a high level of integrity

• Maintains flexibility and performs additional duties as required

• Participates in staff meetings, in-services, and continuing education as necessary
