Surgical Endoscopy Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Surgical Endoscopy Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering professional care to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures within the facility, adhering to established protocols. This position requires collaboration with physicians and team members, demonstrating strong teamwork skills. Responsibilities may include ensuring the proper handling and maintenance of instruments and equipment, as well as assisting in patient transport to and from the procedure area. The technician also contributes to the cleanliness and readiness of the procedure room.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• BLS certification
• Preferred: One (1) year of experience as an endoscopy technologist
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Aids in preparing patients for designated procedures as instructed by the physician
• Assists the physician during endoscopic procedures
• Manages patient specimens according to established policies
• Completes laboratory and culture/path slips accurately as required
• Reports any observed changes in patient conditions to the appropriate nursing staff
• Restocks supplies after procedures to ensure readiness for subsequent cases
• Collaborates with the healthcare team to prepare the endoscopy suite, ensuring all equipment, supplies, and instruments are functioning properly
• Works with the endoscopy team to maintain high-level disinfection and/or sterilization of instruments and supplies as per policy
• Follows manufacturer guidelines for cleaning, disinfection, or sterilization of instruments and equipment
• Cleans the endoscopy suite between cases and performs daily terminal cleaning as per protocols
• Maintains adequate inventory of supplies
• Actively participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) and Safety Programs
• Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to the Code of Conduct
• Complies with all center policies and procedures
• Exhibits a caring, respectful, and compassionate attitude towards patients
• Ensures a safe environment for patients
• Communicates safety concerns appropriately through the established Chain of Command
• Documents necessary information legibly in the performance of duties
• Promotes satisfaction among patients and physicians
• Practices appropriate aseptic techniques and sterile processes relevant to the endoscopy suite
• Utilizes appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Observes universal precautions
• Refers complex situations to the appropriate personnel
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance
• Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned
• Attends all required educational sessions
Team Collaboration
• Works collaboratively with the healthcare team
• Exhibits a high level of integrity
• Maintains flexibility and performs additional duties as required
• Participates in staff meetings, in-services, and continuing education as necessary
