Job Summary

Columbia University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our team in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Science. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic research group focused on translational research and basic science applied to heart valve diseases and bioprosthetic heart valves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments in cell physiology, mechanobiology, and biomedical engineering to investigate the pathological remodeling of heart valve diseases.
  • Perform pharmacology and biochemistry assays to assess the effects of various treatments on heart valve diseases.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator in project activities, including data analysis, manuscript preparation, and editing.
  • Participate in academic research and education, including mentoring research fellows, residents, and medical students.
  • Contribute to the development of a research program that focuses on translational research and basic science applied to heart valve diseases and bioprosthetic heart valves.

Requirements

  • PhD or MD/PhD degree in a relevant field, such as biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Strong background in cardiovascular medicine, including cell physiology, mechanobiology, clinical science, pharmacology, and histology.
  • Experience in bioengineering, including mechanical testing and material science.
  • Previous experience in research projects related to heart valves and/or aortic diseases.
  • Knowledge of heart valve biology and vascular surgery.
