About the Role

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston seeks an accomplished fundraiser to serve as the Chief Development Officer, Principal Gifts. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic philanthropy team and help support one of the most respected academic medical centers.

As a leading academic health university in Texas, UTHealth Houston encompasses schools of dentistry, medicine, nursing, public health, biomedical sciences, biomedical informatics, and behavioral sciences. Situated within the Texas Medical Center, UTHealth Houston operates over 60 properties, totaling nearly 5 million square feet of functional space.

With a faculty of over 2,400 and more than 8,000 staff members, UTHealth Houston educates upwards of 6,500 students and trainees yearly and has a global alumni network of over 50,000.

The Chief Development Officer will play a pivotal role in advancing medical research breakthroughs, shaping the future of medicine through education, and enhancing patient care. This position demands an individual with a high executive presence and exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of strategically aligning and synergizing people, places, and initiatives to maximize philanthropic impact.

The ideal candidate will be a distinguished fundraiser with a proven track record of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding complex gifts. The individual should have at least seven years of related professional experience, preferably in medicine, health care, or higher education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to secure major gifts and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders
  • Lead a team of development professionals to achieve fundraising goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and alumni to identify and pursue philanthropic opportunities
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, prospects, and other key stakeholders
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in development and fundraising

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • At least seven years of related professional experience in development, fundraising, or a related field
  • Proven track record of securing major gifts and cultivating relationships with key stakeholders
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
