Job Summary

Marcum LLP is seeking a highly skilled Assurance Manager to join our team. As a key member of our assurance team, you will be responsible for managing multiple assurance projects and client engagements simultaneously, scheduling, staffing, and coordinating engagement workflow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all phases of an audit, compilation, or review engagement, as well as tax engagements.
  • Maintain contact with clients throughout the year, possessing a thorough knowledge of the client and all facets of their business.
  • Plan, schedule, and staff engagements.
  • Maintain a familiarity with the qualifications of all staff members, reviewing staff assignments for appropriateness.
  • Prepare engagement letters for approval by Partner.
  • Evaluate internal controls and work programs prepared by staff.
  • Adhere to engagement time budgets.
  • Supervise staff and seniors, providing on-the-job training, reviewing work papers and reports prepared by staff.
  • Anticipate problem areas of engagement and questions that will arise.
  • Keep Partner informed of all important developments on engagement, analyzing problems and recommending solutions.
  • Ensure that financial statements, tax returns, and letters of recommendation are prepared in accordance with professional and Firm standards.
  • Communicate progress of engagements, problems, and resolutions to client.
  • Work to develop responsible, trained staff by assisting in performance reviews, encouraging individuals to think for themselves and take responsibility for their contributions to the team.
  • Prepare invoices to clients, communicate details of fees to clients, and assist in collection of overdue accounts.
  • Possess a complete knowledge of the Firm's philosophy and its opinions on tax and accounting matters.
  • Maintain knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate.
  • Understand the client's industry and recognize key performance drivers, business trends, and emerging technical and industry developments. Stay informed of general business/economic developments and their impact to the client.
  • Conduct timely job performance reviews and provide performance feedback/training.
  • Use technology to continually learn, share knowledge with team members, and enhance service delivery.
  • Maintain an educational program to continually develop skills.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with other engagement teams.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting and/or other appropriate academic major required. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Current and valid CPA license.
  • Member in good standing with AICPA.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of products as well as accounting and tax software.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in complexity, scope, and number of engagements managed.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring in new business to the Firm.
  • At least one year of experience supervising and directing the work of others.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Dedication to teamwork and leadership.
  • Advanced technical skills in a variety of tax and accounting areas, along with well-developed and applied management and supervisory skills.
  • Integrity within a professional environment.
Working Conditions
  • Frequent same-day travel for work at client's offices, meetings, and seminars using a personal vehicle.
  • Occasional out-of-town travel with overnight stay for work at clients, meetings, or seminars using personal vehicle.
  • Occasional overtime work required throughout the year. Heavy overtime work required from January to April 15; may be in excess of 55 hours per week.
