This role involves the assessment and coordination of both direct and indirect perioperative activities, which encompass surgical cases, endoscopy, and obstetrics. Responsibilities include performing clerical and computer tasks related to perioperative functions, assisting surgical teams and physicians during procedures, and preparing patients both psychologically and physically for surgeries and treatments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete documentation accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to established guidelines.
  • Assist anesthetists as needed and provide support in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
  • Participate in on-call rotations as required.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to maintain composure during emergencies, manage stress effectively, and work collaboratively within a team. A thorough understanding of AORN standards and Operating Room protocols is essential, along with expertise in aseptic techniques and sterilization methods. A solid grasp of anatomy and physiology as they pertain to surgical and anesthesia practices is required.

Licensure/Certification: Must hold a current Registered Nurse license from the Oregon State Board of Nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire, with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification needed within six months. Additional certifications such as TNCC, PALS, or NALS are preferred.

Education and Experience: Candidates should be graduates of an accredited School of Nursing. Experience in the Operating Room is necessary, with PACU experience being advantageous. Newly graduated RNs or those who have not worked in an acute care setting for an extended period may be required to complete a Nurse Residency program.

Physical Demands: The position requires the physical ability to perform essential functions, including prolonged standing and walking. Occasional patient lifting may be necessary. Candidates must be able to work under physical and mental stress for extended periods and possess the dexterity to operate medical equipment and retrieve supplies. Compliance with safety protocols regarding hazardous materials and the ability to wear personal protective equipment, including surgical masks, for extended durations is essential.
