Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our team at the City of Winston-Salem, NC. As a key member of our Utilities department, you will assist in maintaining water treatment operations and related work as apparent or assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist senior plant operators with routine technical and responsible skilled work in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plant and equipment.
  • Conduct regular tours of the plant to check engines, generators, pumps, settling tanks, filters, and other equipment for proper functioning.
  • Record readings from meters and instruments, perform specific laboratory tests, and report defects to maintenance personnel.
  • Substitute for senior operators in their absence and monitor water plant operations and distribution via SCADA.
  • Adjust chemical dosages under the direction of the senior operator.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED and minimal experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to pass a validated job assessment skills test with a minimum passing score of 70%.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Pass NC State B Surface Certification within a reasonable timeframe.
