Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a Civil Engineer Intern with a keen interest in civil, water/wastewater, and municipal utility engineering to join our dynamic team.
As a Civil Engineer Intern, you will engage in smaller projects and collaborate on larger initiatives under the mentorship of experienced civil engineers and designers. Your role will involve supporting the design, permitting, and management of various water-related projects, including pipelines, sewer systems, pump stations, and treatment facilities. You will undertake a range of tasks, such as conducting fieldwork, preparing calculations, and assisting senior engineers with routine civil engineering assignments.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the project team in creating design plans and specifications for diverse water and wastewater systems, primarily serving public municipal clients.
- Contribute to the preparation of comprehensive engineering studies, technical reports, and models related to municipal distribution and collection systems.
- Participate in quality reviews of documents at various design stages, including engineering calculations and construction plans.
- Support the evaluation and selection of civil systems, materials, and equipment.
- Help senior staff in preparing project cost estimates and engage in value engineering discussions.
- Prepare and coordinate permit applications and documentation for utility and environmental permits across various jurisdictions.
- Engage in project meetings with team members, external consultants, and clients to discuss project requirements and document key discussions.
- Conduct field site visits to support construction projects, including observation and utility testing.
- Assist in reviewing contractor submissions and prepare onsite construction observation reports.
- Be ready to assist with any project tasks to ensure timely and quality project completion.
- Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, capable of managing multiple tasks effectively.
- Proficient technical writing skills.
- Preferred experience in the design of water and wastewater utilities.
- Technical knowledge in water, sewer, and drainage projects is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and ArcGIS Mapping is beneficial, along with a willingness to learn new software.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
- Engineer-in-Training certification.
