Your Opportunity

We are seeking a Civil Engineering Intern with a passion for civil, water/wastewater, and municipal utility engineering to join our dynamic team.

As a Civil Engineer Intern, you will contribute to smaller projects and collaborate on larger initiatives under the mentorship of experienced civil engineers and designers. Your role will involve assisting in the design, permitting, and management of projects related to water mains, sewer systems, pump stations, stormwater management, and treatment facilities. You will engage in various tasks, including calculations, fieldwork, and supporting senior engineers with routine civil engineering assignments.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the project team in creating design plans and specifications for diverse water/wastewater distribution and collection systems, focusing on public municipal clients.
  • Contribute to detailed engineering studies, technical reports, models, and design tasks associated with municipal systems and facilities.
  • Participate in quality reviews of documents at various design stages, including engineering calculations and construction plans.
  • Support the evaluation and selection of civil systems, materials, and equipment.
  • Help senior staff prepare project cost estimates and engage in value engineering activities.
  • Coordinate permit applications and documentation for utility, environmental, and municipal permits, responding to requests for additional information.
  • Engage in project meetings with internal teams, external consultants, clients, and municipal officials, documenting discussions and follow-up actions.
  • Support construction projects through field visits, observation, and utility testing.
  • Assist in reviewing contractor submissions, responding to information requests, and preparing onsite observation reports.
  • Be ready to assist with any project tasks to ensure timely and quality project completion.
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient technical writing skills.
  • Preferred experience in designing water and wastewater utilities.
  • Technical knowledge in water, sewer, and drainage projects is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and ArcGIS Mapping is a plus, along with a willingness to learn relevant software.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification.
Must possess a valid driver's license.

This role typically involves an office environment with extensive computer use and sedentary work. Fieldwork may expose you to various weather conditions.
