At Stantec, we unite some of the world's leading engineers and scientists in our Water division, approaching a community's relationship with water as an integrated system rather than fragmented networks separated by jurisdictional lines. By engaging with the entire hydrologic cycle, we provide sustainable solutions to ensure water is accessible and reliable when needed. Our experts drive our initiatives with scientific precision, innovative thinking, and a vision for future development. Join us in our mission to help communities enhance, reuse, and safeguard this vital resource for generations to come.

Your Opportunity

As a mid-level civil engineer specializing in water resources, you will operate independently on smaller assignments while collaborating as part of a team on larger initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to assess, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for various projects. Your role will involve a range of complex tasks, including calculations, fieldwork, and coordination of personnel and tasks. The projects you will undertake may encompass the water, wastewater, and stormwater sectors, focusing on the design of essential infrastructure such as pump stations, treatment facilities, gravity sewers, force mains, and water distribution systems. You will evaluate proposed projects to ensure they are reliable, resource-efficient, and cost-effective.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple projects of moderate complexity and size.
  • Serve as Engineer-of-Record (EOR) when required.
  • Lead or perform intricate engineering design tasks under the guidance of the Project Technical Lead or Project Manager, including the creation of engineering drawings, reports, presentations, and applications to regulatory or funding bodies.
  • Contribute to design development through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Prepare and update documentation across various civil phases, including site plans, utility profiles, grading plans, and detailed diagrams.
  • Facilitate project coordination meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders, including consultants, owners, contractors, and vendors.
  • Engage in client meetings to discuss project requirements, value analysis, and cost estimation.
  • Participate in the permitting process, which may involve interactions with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee and mentor other team members, delegating specific project tasks as appropriate.
  • Assist senior engineers/designers in developing and managing project scope, budget, staffing, and timelines.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of project specifications alongside construction documents.
  • Draft contract documents for construction, including engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Participate in constructability reviews.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on assigned projects.
  • Contribute to the development of new standards and specifications within the discipline.
  • Prepare sections of engineering project proposals, change orders, and client communications related to specific projects.
  • Support the civil team in providing services during construction, including submittal reviews and responses to requests for information.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering design concepts, including gravity and pressure systems, geotechnical considerations, drainage design, road design, and erosion control.
  • Excellent time management skills and a thorough understanding of task assignment, budgeting, and resource efficiency.
  • Ability to effectively communicate project issues with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of codes, legal, and design requirements relevant to the jurisdictions.
  • Well-versed in all phases of project documentation and the interplay between drawings and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of civil systems, methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and relevant engineering software, including AutoCAD Civil3D, ArcGIS, and modeling software.
  • Capable of solving complex problems with sound judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Able to review the work of others for accuracy and completeness while managing time to meet project budgets and schedules.
  • Collaborative team player with strong leadership skills and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Preferred strong presentation and interview skills.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • 4-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Typical office environment with extensive computer use and desk work; fieldwork may involve exposure to various weather conditions.
