Position Overview

The Engineering Program Manager for the Firefighting Trainer Modernization (FFTM) initiative will play a pivotal role in supporting the Project Manager (PM) in overseeing contractor operations that facilitate effective performance under the contract and associated engineering task orders.

Reporting Structure

This position will report directly to the PM and will liaise with the government client as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the Chief Engineer for the FFTM project.
  • Lead engineering design evaluations in collaboration with subcontractors.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all contractor-related functions concerning the FFTM contract and related technical task orders.
  • Assume PM responsibilities during their absence.
  • Maintain an updated roster and status report for FFTM personnel, tracking filled positions, new hires, vacancies, and other personnel changes.
  • Coordinate billing for travel needs and miscellaneous contract expenses.
  • Organize and prepare contract deliverables for PM review and submission.
  • Plan and oversee professional development training for contract personnel.
  • Assist the PM in the development and implementation of new policies.
  • Work with HR to address issues and ensure responsiveness to personnel needs.
  • Collaborate with Recruiting to fulfill staffing requirements and conduct preliminary interviews as needed.
  • Coordinate with Security to ensure compliance with contract security clearance protocols.
  • Conduct data analysis to identify trends and enhance the accuracy of various assessments.
  • Maintain proactive communication with the Department of Navy (DON) and all contractor personnel to assess ongoing information and analysis needs.
  • Support the PM in corporate budgeting and contract reporting obligations.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Proposal Support functions as required.
Required Competencies
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within teams and across functions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Aptitude for navigating complex situations involving multiple stakeholders.
Supervisory Role

This position partners with the PM and may supervise site management and project support staff as necessary.

Work Environment

This role is based in a professional office setting, with routine use of standard office equipment. Occasional site visits may be required.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this position include:

  • Remaining stationary for approximately 70% of the time.
  • Occasional movement within the office to access equipment and files.
  • Frequent operation of computers and office machinery.
  • Regular communication and interaction with colleagues.
  • Ability to lift standard office equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
Position Type

This is a full-time role, typically requiring a 40-hour work week, with potential evening and weekend hours based on business needs.

Travel Requirements

Some travel is expected for this position, with an estimated 20% travel commitment.

Experience and Education
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in the engineering sector, with a preference for training system experience.
  • At least five (5) years of experience leading engineering design reviews.
  • A minimum of three (3) years supporting government programs or contracts.
  • One (1) year of experience as a Deputy Project Manager or Management Analyst in a government context.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating HR and recruiting functions.
Educational Background
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • A Master's degree is an advantage.
Additional Qualifications

Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain or maintain a SECRET security clearance.
