Job Overview:

Dow Jones is on the lookout for a skilled photographer to join our in-house studio team, contributing to our diverse coverage of lifestyle, features, and occasional business and magazine projects. This role is integral to the Features team and will involve editing, research, and digital storytelling alongside fellow photo editors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce a variety of high-quality photographic content across multiple genres including still-life, fashion, food, travel, and design.
  • Utilize advanced lighting techniques to enhance the aesthetic quality and mood of images.
  • Conduct thorough research on agencies and social media, effectively collaborating within a large newsroom environment.
  • Set up props and backgrounds that complement the subject matter of each shoot.
  • Work closely with photo editors, art directors, stylists, and models to plan and execute successful photo shoots.
  • Brainstorm and implement creative ideas for visual content that align with editorial themes.
  • Manage multiple photography assignments and adhere to tight deadlines.
  • Adapt photography style to meet the specific requirements of different assignments.
  • Coordinate logistics and equipment for on-location shoots as necessary.
  • Operate and maintain studio photography equipment with proficiency.
  • Edit and retouch images to meet publication standards.
  • Stay updated on photography trends and apply new techniques as appropriate.
  • Ensure all photographs align with the newsroom's quality and style guidelines.
  • Review and refine work based on feedback from editors and stakeholders.
  • Efficiently manage time and resources to maximize productivity.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a photography role, preferably in editorial production.
  • Strong understanding of the WSJ's approach to fashion, food, still-life, travel, and cultural coverage.
  • A well-established network of stylists, prop houses, and modeling agencies.
  • Proficiency in web tools, content management systems, and photo editing software such as Capture One and Photoshop.
  • Excellent news judgment and a solid grasp of mobile-first design principles.
  • Strong organizational and collaborative skills.
  • A creative mindset with a passion for reaching new audiences.
  • A self-starter attitude, capable of working independently as well as part of a team.

Compensation:

The pay range for this position is $95,000 - $115,000, with a comprehensive benefits package designed to support the diverse needs of our workforce.
