About the Position:

Position Overview

The primary responsibility of this role is to apply the nursing process to meet the healthcare needs of designated patients while adhering to established standards of care. Additional responsibilities include supporting physicians in patient assessment and care, collecting and documenting data in medical records, assisting with laboratory and office procedures related to patient care, and performing front office tasks to ensure smooth operations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensure or Certifications: Active certification or registration as a Medical Assistant is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required or must be obtained shortly after hiring.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiarity with clinical office procedures.
  • Understanding of front office (administrative) processes.
  • Ability to identify and implement appropriate infection control measures.


Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure effective patient care: Assist physicians in patient assessments and care. Prepare examination rooms and patients for office visits, including recording vital signs and medications. Perform electrocardiograms and monitor symptoms of acutely ill patients, alerting the physician as necessary. Gather medical records while maintaining confidentiality. Assess needs for medication refills and manage sample distribution.
  • Accurate data management: Input medications, medical history, and problem lists into the electronic medical record (EMR). Abstract medical information and create clinical summaries as needed. Verify and update information in the EMR, ensuring all lab orders are processed correctly.
  • Follow physician directives: Educate patients on procedures and assist with consent forms. Perform necessary tests and ensure timely communication of test results to patients. Prepare patient records prior to physician encounters and ensure all previous orders are completed.
  • Support laboratory operations: Conduct venipuncture, order lab work, and manage blood sample preparation. Review lab results with physicians and ensure patient notifications are completed. Maintain accurate documentation of lab procedures and manage supply inventories.
  • Assist in specialized clinics: Participate in the Anti-Coagulation clinic, providing patient education and maintaining necessary documentation. Perform required tests and ensure compliance with clinical guidelines.
  • Administrative duties: Manage patient communications, including voicemail and appointment scheduling. Assist with supply orders and maintain compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and carry up to 20 lbs. Frequent standing, walking, and bending are required.
