About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Tower Crane Safety Compliance Supervisor. As a key member of our Department of Labor & Industries (L&I), you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and health of Washington's workers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and administer the tower crane safety compliance inspection processes.
  • Ensure tower crane inspections are done appropriately in accordance with the DOSH Compliance Manual and industry standards.
  • Supervise a work unit with multiple CISHI crane safety staff.
  • Ensure that fatalities, catastrophes, and other high-profile accident investigations are initiated as promptly as possible.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
  • Set expectations/goals for staff and hold them accountable.
  • Plan for future workload issues by analyzing information/data and applying it to budgeting and fiscal operations.
  • Defend inspection cases at the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals (BIIA) and assist Assistant Attorney General staff as needed.
  • Respond to and resolve complaints from staff and/or union representatives.
  • Conduct accompanied visits with staff at least 1-2 times per year.
  • Review and approve all inspection and investigation inspection files and sign off on reports, approving them for Citations and Notices to be issued.
  • Perform annual evaluations and develop training plans for staff.
  • Coordinate regional field inspection and investigation activities with other DOSH and regional teams.
  • Assist staff when challenges arise regarding communicating or working with third-party employer representatives, industry groups, attorneys, employee representatives, and unions.
  • Resolve conflicts between L&I and tower crane customers.
  • Build strong working relationships with consultation and compliance staff, Attorney General's office, and other DOSH staff, stakeholders, and industry groups.
  • Periodically evaluate program effectiveness and overall industry acceptance and consider ideas and suggestions for process improvements.
Requirements
  • One (1) year supervisory experience.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience operating and/or servicing cranes.
  • Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
