As a vital member of the program services team, the specialist provides trauma-informed support and collaborates with colleagues to enhance community services.

PROGRAM INSIGHT: Established in 1999, the Cascade Women's Program offers a secure living environment and essential resources for female-identifying individuals facing homelessness in Seattle. The program features 32 units of permanent supportive housing, complemented by case management and assistance from a dedicated and empathetic staff.

ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION: Compass Housing Alliance is committed to developing and delivering crucial services and affordable housing for individuals and families experiencing housing instability in the greater Puget Sound area. Our vision is a community where every individual resides in a safe and nurturing environment. We foster a supportive and challenging workplace that values the dignity and well-being of those we serve, recognizing the importance of diversity among our staff, guests, residents, and community partners.

  • LOCATION: South Lake Union Neighborhood
  • REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator or Manager
  • FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
  • SCHEDULE: Friday-Sunday 12-8:30am; includes monthly staff meetings
  • MEAL PERIOD: Paid (30-minutes)
  • SALARY: $21.22 per hour (Step 1) + additional $1.75 per overnight hour

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure a trauma-informed approach while monitoring activities within and around the facility to guarantee the safety and comfort of residents and staff.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and provide de-escalation and crisis intervention as necessary; model effective problem-solving strategies and refer individuals to appropriate services.
  • Assist with program activities, including meal services and supporting residents with tasks such as laundry access and group activities as assigned.
  • Address resident concerns as directed by the Program Manager, Program Coordinator, or Property Manager.
  • Communicate building needs to management and ensure adequate supplies and equipment are available.
  • Conduct light data entry and post communications within the building to maintain a welcoming environment.
  • Monitor security systems, perform regular security checks, and address any noise or complaints.
  • Document all actions, incidents, and rule enforcement, reporting significant matters to the Program Coordinator or Manager.
  • Manage after-hours access and monitor guest logs, enforcing rules and restrictions.
  • Adhere to safety and emergency procedures in accordance with program and agency policies.
  • Engage with emergency services when necessary.
  • Perform light cleaning duties as assigned.

LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate respect for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of best practices in de-escalation and crisis intervention.
  • Familiarity with local resources for individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Effective management of challenging interpersonal situations and when to seek managerial support.
  • Adherence to agency policies for maintaining safety and security.
  • Ability to establish and uphold professional boundaries.
  • Capacity to work in a dynamic environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products and other relevant software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 1 year of experience in building security or customer service is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in human services (work or volunteer) is preferred.
  • Awareness of equity and inclusion issues is desired.
  • Current WA State Food Handlers Permit is preferred (will be sponsored if not current).
  • Experience with issues related to housing instability, mental health, and substance use is preferred.
  • A degree in social work or a related field is beneficial.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry supplies up to 20 pounds.
  • Work involves long periods of sitting, computer use, and movement throughout the facility.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Normal noise levels in a human services setting.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials requiring adherence to safety protocols.
  • This position requires onsite work only.
  • Compass facilities are monitored for safety and security purposes.
