Job Overview

The Patient Financial Coordinator is responsible for fostering an environment where knowledge and information regarding patient services are effectively communicated to enhance reimbursement processes. This role requires exceptional communication skills to interact with clients, patients, and internal teams on a daily basis.

Key Responsibilities

• Authorization Management: Ensure timely submission of referrals, precertifications, and authorizations for Radiation Oncology services within 48 hours of notification to positively influence the DSO for all patients requiring authorization.

• Insurance Verification: Conduct thorough insurance verification, including network and payer participation, prior to patient visits to positively impact DSO.

• Client Liaison: Attend weekly client meetings as the primary liaison between the Radiation Oncology department and the Billing Department for both RBS and the client.

• Industry Knowledge: Acquire knowledge of industry standards for Radiation Oncology and attend all mandatory training sessions.

• Peer Review Minimization: Strive to minimize physician peer-to-peer reviews to less than one per week.

• Patient Engagement: Demonstrate successful patient engagement and financial counseling standards, aiming to meet or exceed 80% of patients on treatment.

• Authorization Process: Understand and implement necessary processes to submit authorizations for services within 48 hours of notification for all patients requiring authorization.

• Monitoring Requirements: Keep abreast of LCDs and insurance policy-specific requirements for Radiation Therapy.

• Communication Skills: Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication with clients, patients, and colleagues.

• Customer Service Orientation: Maintain a customer service focus for both patients and clients, demonstrating empathy towards patient needs.

Physical Demands

The characteristics of the work environment are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this role. The role may require lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds, sitting or standing for extended periods, and performing repetitive hand/wrist motions. The ability to manage multiple tasks and handle stressful situations is essential. Occasional travel may be required based on client needs.

Qualifications

To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Education and Experience

• Education: High School Diploma.

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years in Medical Billing and Patient Accounts; 5 years of experience in Radiation Oncology billing/coding is preferred; clinical office experience is also preferred.
