Position Overview

Nemours Children's Health is in search of a Financial Grant Specialist to become a vital part of our finance team.

The Financial Grant Specialist will oversee the fiscal analysis, documentation, and reconciliation across four key sectors: (1) Nemours Biomedical Research (including Federal and non-Federal grants/subcontracts, Nemours-sponsored grants, Clinical Trials, Symposiums, Registries, Labs & Development accounts), (2) Other grants (non-Research)-Federal and non-Federal, (3) Education, and (4) Donations. This role requires proficiency in interpreting Federal, state, and commercial grants and contracts to ensure accurate and compliant accounting practices.

Each grant/subcontract, Certified Medical Education (CME) course, and donation transaction must be accurately recorded within the Lawson Activities subsystem, adhering to the specific requirements and intentions of the grantee, participant, or donor. With a substantial volume of approximately 1,000 activities, meticulous attention to detail is essential to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Federal regulatory standards, including those set by the Federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and National Health Institutes (NIH).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct grant-related post-award functions such as contract/award assessment, expenditure evaluation, budget variance analysis, invoicing, collection follow-up, compliance monitoring, and grant closure activities. Generate monthly financial reports for project directors and collaborate to address any arising issues. Offer guidance on adherence to grant terms and conditions.
  • Manage and analyze outstanding grant receivables and deferred revenue to ensure collectability and accurate revenue reporting.
  • Prepare and submit necessary external financial reports for both Federal and Non-Federal entities.
  • Establish and maintain activities in Lawson, monitor timelines, oversee activity statuses, and facilitate the closure of activities in collaboration with relevant personnel.
  • Compile assigned journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Execute monthly closing functions related to Research, Education, Non-Research grants, and Donations, including a thorough review of financial statements and individual activity reports.
  • Investigate variances identified in financial statements and activity reports to provide explanations or determine if adjustments are necessary.
  • Complete assigned post-closing duties, ensuring timely preparation and maintenance of general ledger account reconciliations, along with the distribution of reports, invoices, and activity reconciliations.
Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is required.

3-5 years of relevant experience is essential.

Experience with grants is preferred.
